There are two main types of turbine the impulse turbine and the reaction turbine.of the two types,the impulse turbine is perhaps the easiest to understand.the potential energy of the fluid is first converted into kinetic energy by making it flow through a specially shaped passage called a nozzle.this kinetic energy is then converted into useful work by directing the high speed jet of fluid onto blades attached to a rotating wheel,or rotor. In a reaction turbine,rings of fixed stator blades alternate with rotor blades.the stator blades are so shaped that the spaces between them act as nozzles.
